This section provides a short profile of some the members

Hugh Gillings - Chairman/Webmaster/Events Organiser

Hugh is the founder of the Dinefwr Photographic Society and has had an interest in photography for over 25 years. He spent many years as a semi-professional wedding photographer during the 1990's to 2005, and was a member of the Master Photographers Association. He qualified to Licentiateship level while being a member and he was also a member of the Guild of Wedding Photographers. His interests now lie in Landscape, Nature and Wildlife photography. Hugh is a full time lecturer at Coleg SirGar where he teaches general IT, Digital Photography and Photo Editing using Adobe Photo Elements and Adobe Photoshop.

His current camera equipment consists of a Canon 10D and 50D digital SLRs with a set of lenses and also a Canon G10 digital compact.

Jim Strange - Vice Chairman/Press Secretary

Jim is a relative newcomer to photography having acquired a Fujifilm Finepix S5600 a few years ago. Having developed his photography Jim recently moved up to a digital SLR and bought himself a Nikon D40 along with 18mm-55mm and 55mm-200mm lenses. He has since added a 70-300 mm to his equipment bag. Jim's photographic interests lie in nature and birds and he has joined the Dinefwr Photographic Society to help him improve his technique and understanding of how to get the best from his camera. Jim has been an active member from the start and enjoys meeting like minded individuals to help and share ideas with.

Jeff Peters - Treasurer

Wendy Powell-Jones - Secretary

Wendy is a professional artist working mainly in watercolour painting subjects such as landscapes and wildlife. Wendy operates from the Corner Gallery in Ammanford where her pictures are shown along with work from several other artists living and working in the area. She takes photographs just for fun, but she uses some of them as reference material for her watercolours. Wendy has joined the Dinefwr Photographic Society to enjoy the company of like minded people and learn from their experiences. Her camera is a Canon EOS 350D digital SLR with a wide angle and a zoom (75-300mm) lens.

John Burton - Technical Advisor

After over 20 years in local government John set up and ran his own trekking company in Nepal. He still treks widely and travels extensively. Along the way he developed an interest in photography that later developed into a passion. He started entering competitions and in his first year as a photographer won a number of competitions as well as going on to become runner up in the final of Digital Camera Magazine's Photographer of the Year 2006.

John has had work published in magazines like Digital Camera Magazine, The Dorset Magazine, Muse Magazine, Scarlet Magazine, Real Travel Magazine, and The Independent Magazine.

John has now retired and moved to live in Wales. Travel and travel photography remain his first love
and in recent years he has visited many countries including; Ethiopia, Rwanda, India, Russia, Mongolia, Nepal, Tibet, South Africa, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Chile and Argentina.

Since joining the Dinefwr Photographic Society John has brought with him a wealth of experience and knowledge which he has been happy to share with the other members.

Ian Lister

Ian has renewed his interest in photography after a 16 year gap and moved from film to digital in late 2005. His photographic interests include black and white, scenics and wildlife along with digital art using Adobe Photoshop. He has remained loyal to Olympus moving from the OM1 film camera to the E-510 digital camera. Ian has joined the society so that it will help him focus to take more photographs and also to improve his technique.

Paul Norrington

Paul has been a keen photographer for some 30 years after receiving an Olympus Trip camera as a present. He now uses a Nikon D700 DSLR along with various lenses. Paul enjoys all aspects of photography particularly landscapes, wildlife and travel photography as well as learning and developing digital editing and printing skills.

Being a member of the society has enabled Paul to expand his photographic knowledge and explore new areas in photography. He brings a wealth of experience to the society which he is happy to share with other members of a friendly and growing group of enthusiasts.

Nicola Broadbridge

Nicola has been into all things wild and the natural world from an extremely early age. This alongside photography has developed into a passion that she now succesfully captures with her Nikon D300 DSLR. She was delighted to announce that one of her red kite images had been shortlisted in the 2010 British Wildlife Photography Awards and ended up in the book to celebrate the award.

She has been with the society for a few years and enjoys sharing her images and ideas with the other members. You can see some of Nicola's work on her personal website by clicking here

Martin Stevens

Martin came to Digital Photography about 6 years ago. Up to then his main interest had been painting in watercolours and he attended several of Wendy's courses. Being disabled he found early on that he needed some form of camera to take photographs of what he wanted to paint without having to sit for hours out in the open.

His first camera was a Kodak compact and now uses a Canon G9 and a Fuji S9600 that help with his photographic interests of Nature,Landscapes & Macro. For photo manipulation he use Adobe CS3, Adobe Elements 6 and an Epson R285 printer with a seperate Epson V100 Scanner to complete his digital darkroom.

Martin has joined the society to broaden his experience, share ideas and meet like minded individuals.

John Wheeler

Having moved to West Wales from Somerset for his retirement it wasn't long before John decided to catch up on his photography again. Through a friend John discovered the Dinefwr Photographic Society and joined immediately. He was pleased to find a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and is now a regular member, enjoying the wealth of knowledge and experience other members are happy to share with him.
